Installing a tent follows specific regulations set either by the owner or by the local government. Tent users are required to understand these regulations to prevent charges explained by the provisions of the contract signed during the rental and accidents that violations may cause. To enjoy the recreational camping the family planned long before, none of these regulations must be missed or sullied.

Each type of tent has a specific height considered in the restrictions. Tall framed tents, such as bell or chum, must not be installed in places with overhanging obstructions, such as tree branches and high-voltage wires. If to be put up in parks, users must be careful not to cut branches to allow the tent to be installed properly. Instead, they are encouraged to find a wider space without obstructions.

Renters are required to pay cash deposits before carrying the tent home. This is to ensure that the tent is returned in good condition. Most deposits are non-refundable, meaning the renter shall pay for it up front as part of the full payment. Additional fees shall be charged from a renter returning the tent damaged. The charge shall cover for the repair and for the violation of the contract signed.

Damage on the tent can be caused by not following local tent regulations. In some locales, tent users are not allowed to smoke inside the tent, thus, they are required to put a visible "No Smoking" sign outside. Violation to this rule results to burns on the tent and in some cases, fire. Tent rentals are very strict in observing local rules. Other locales require tent users to obtain government permit to install the tent.

Those who are planning on camping must inform the locale weeks ahead to obtain the necessary permit. In that way, they can be oriented with the restrictions that authorities implement in the area for tent building. Most tent rentals have databases containing local restrictions for tent building that they can immediately inform their customers upon rental.

Tent users are advised by management of tent rentals to visit the site ahead of the camping schedule to plan the type of tent applicable based on the restrictions and the manner of installation allowed. It will also save them time in spending vacation on a camping when the tent is installed a few hours before the activities formally begin.
